Man known for ‘Thank You Jesus’ signs pleads guilty to third-degree sexual exploitation

RANDOLPH COUNTY, NC — A man will have to register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to sex crimes in the Piedmont Triad.

In February, 2025, Lucas Timothy Hunt was arrested and charged with second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Hunt is credited as the person who made the popular ‘Thank You Jesus’ lawn signs.

On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was given 36 months of supervised probation, with a chance for that to become unsupervised probation after 24 months. He will register as a sex offender for 30 years and provide DNA to law enforcement as part of this plea.

Hunt’s attorney, Trevor Guyton, said he is thinks the attention should be off his client and back on the district attorney’s office.

“As you heard in the sentencing hearing, the plea offer in this case is a product of just a hard-line, no exceptions policy … This is what they do in all these cases. The facts, almost regardless, and I just think that that is a very unfortunate and shameful policy,” Guyton said.

Upon Hunt’s arrest in 2025, Constance “Connie” Frazier, the president of the Thank You Jesus Mission, provided FOX8 with the following statement:

“Thank You Jesus has always been about more than one person, it’s about people who love Jesus and want to show their appreciation. Although we cannot comment on the criminal charges against Lucas Hunt, we can share that he blessed thousands of people through the Thank You Jesus Signs.”
