Cybersecurity Guidelines
SNAP is committed to protecting the dignity, privacy, and safety of survivors in every space where our work takes place — including online.
These guidelines reflect how SNAP approaches digital communication in ways that uphold survivor trust and responsible advocacy.
Digital space is part of our shared public work. The same care we bring to in-person organizing applies online.
In all digital communications, SNAP strives to:
- Prioritize survivor dignity and consent
- Protect personal and confidential information
- Communicate with integrity and accuracy
- Maintain trust within our community and with the public
- Use digital tools responsibly in support of advocacy
To ensure clarity, safety, and accountability, only individuals formally authorized by SNAP may use SNAP-issued email addresses, digital accounts or represent SNAP in official online communications.
This helps ensure:
- Survivors can trust they are communicating with recognized SNAP representatives
- Sensitive information is handled responsibly
- SNAP’s public voice remains clear and accountable
SNAP does not share identifying survivor information without consent.
SNAP is committed to:
- Protecting confidentiality
- Respecting anonymity where requested
- Ensuring survivors remain in control of their own stories
SNAP recognizes an important distinction between private and public communication.
Public digital spaces connected to SNAP’s work should reflect the values of respect, responsibility, and care that guide our mission.
In these spaces:
- Survivors and survivor organizations should be treated with respect and dignity
- Sensitive discussions must take place through appropriate and secure channels
- Public communication should strengthen, not undermine, survivor advocacy
SNAP takes steps to protect its digital systems and information in ways appropriate to its mission and resources. Strengthened cybersecurity processes and procedures support SNAP’s commitment to safety and trust including protecting access to SNAP systems and data, protection of survivor and donor information and secure communication tools
Digital environments continue to evolve. SNAP will adapt its practices as needed to support survivor safety and maintain trust in our public work.
SNAP remains dedicated to creating environments — online and offline — where survivors are heard, respected and safe.
