SNAP Applauds the Archdiocese of New York Sex Abuse Settlement
NEW YORK, December 17, 2025 – SNAP welcomes the New York court’s decision approving the Archdiocese of New York’s sex abuse settlement to raise $300 million to fund the settlement for 1,300 survivors.
“This outcome will provide a measure of relief and validation for survivors who have waited decades to be acknowledged,” said SNAP Executive Director, Angela Walker. “SNAP stands in solidarity with all survivors, those who were able to participate in the settlement process and those whose voices were never heard. No legal resolution can fully account for the profound harm caused by the sexual abuse of children, the extensive institutional cover-ups that enabled it, or the lifelong impact survivors continue to endure.”
SNAP demands that any measures tied to last week’s decision increase transparency and public access to records related to how abuse was handled and concealed. Accountability must extend beyond individual perpetrators to include the officials and systems that allowed abuse to persist unchecked.
“There is no dollar amount that can repair the damage caused by abuse or decades of institutional cover-up,” said Walker. “True accountability requires transparency, structural reform, and an unwavering commitment to protecting children and vulnerable people.”
